Argument Prompts Vault: 24 AP Lang-Style Prompts Across 8 Categories

From blank page to line of reasoning — 24 ready-to-use argument prompts, a REHUGO evidence quick-reference, and model paragraphs that show students exactly how a thesis becomes an essay.

What's Included (13 pages)

  • Teacher Guide — a suggested 4-step sequence (thesis drills → REHUGO brainstorm → timed write → peer exchange) so the bundle drops straight into your existing rotation

  • 24 argument prompts across 8 categories — Politics & Government, Sports & Competition, Philosophy & Ethics, Technology & Society, Education, Environment & Nature, Art & Culture, and Science & Progress

  • REHUGO Quick-Reference poster — the six evidence categories (Reading, Entertainment, History, Universal Truths, Government/Current Events, Observation) students can pull from for any prompt

  • Model Paragraphs — a full intro/support/conclusion example with color-coded CLAIM / EVIDENCE / COMMENTARY / LINK / CONCESSION tags, showing students how each piece of a real argument essay is built

  • Terms of Use

Why It Works

Each prompt is written in the same shape as College Board's actual released Q3 prompts — a short framing statement followed by a direct writing task — but with real phrasing variety, rotating through "whether...", "the claim that...", "the value of...", "develop your position on...", and "the extent to which..." so students learn to read any argument prompt, not just one template.

Every prompt also deliberately leaves the evidence category open. Instead of telling students which REHUGO category to use, the prompts hand that decision back to them — so the thinking work (a REHUGO brainstorm, a defensible thesis, a real line of reasoning) stays with the student instead of the assignment.

Who It's For

AP Lang and Pre-AP teachers who want:

  • A deep bank of prompts for timed writes, thesis drills, or Socratic seminars that won't repeat topic-to-topic

  • A lower-prep way to practice line-of-reasoning and evidence selection without writing new prompts every week

  • A resource that pairs naturally with the REHUGO Evidence Toolkit for full essay-cycle coverage
